This tour offers is a unique opportunity to discover the world of rice and its growing, being immersed in romantic, quiet and unique panoramas of “squared seas” (the look of the rice fields when they’re flooded) and tasting different recipes based on this extraordinarily versatile cereal. With your local guide and foodie you’ll visit a family-run rice farm: the mysterious old-fashion art of rice processing will have no more secrets for you. Nothing gets wasted here and the growing and production processes are following environmental protection as well as sustainability.
Season matter here: every different moment of the year will gift you with new colors and emotions.
From approximately October to April, after the ploughing, the fields are coloured in brown, but as spring comes they’ll get flooded, revealing a unique aspect known as the “squared sea”: many kilometres of flooded fields separated by stripes of land and snowy mountains as background. In late summer, from July to August, bright green sprouts will grow from the water surface, shining like fireflies at sunset. In the end of summer and beginning of Autumn the rice is finally ripe with its amber colour, that will remind you of a wild Savanna. 
Everything is so romantic that we almost forget the lunch part! We’ll drive you to a typical Osteria in typical village of the plain, to keep admiring the rice fields while tasting traditional dishes based on rice and much more! Time to go back to Novara, where we’ll stop at a local cookie-lab (and the whole area is very famous for cookies!) and have a relaxing stroll in town, visiting the Basilica di San Gaudenzio and exploring the Cortile del Broletto. Train back to Milan according to your own schedule.
